13 Steps to Being a World-Class Athlete (basic steps you must follow)

Be Committed: Am a big soccer fan and I really love it, recalling the last World Cup before Brazil 2014 where my country Nigerian Super Eagles played, they were kicked out in the first round and they came back home and everybody were sad about it. And one of the major causes of their defeat was that they lacked Commitment, am not saying that they are not good players, of course they are. But what took them out quickly was lack of commitment in playing for their Country. Now flash back a little to the just concluded World Cup in Brazil, the entire nation saw their high level of commitment in the team and were proud of them, even though they were knocked out in the quarter final at least they were committed. Why am I saying this, is that you’ve got to be committed to your sport. And leave your legacy even if it means giving up other hobbies and interests.

Availability of Raw Talent:  I can call myself an Advocate of Raw Talent, and I respect people who know their talent and hold tight to it. You can’t fully succeed in any field of your choice without the input of your God given talent in it. In this field, you must be naturally talented to make it. In fact, certain athletes are just born with it. Take for example Usain Bolt, Tyson Gay (Track and Field), Lionel Messi, & Cristiano Ronaldo (Soccer),  John Cena, & The Psycho Dean Ambrose(WWE), Tiger Wood etc, they are all very talented .

Drive:  A good athlete is not always satisfied with his or her last  performance, no matter the fact that  he won, they seek to improve on their skills more and more till they reach the top.  So you've to be driven to improve.

Be Focus:  You have to be able to focus on the task at hand and turn out any other distractions. In life as I always say, there are many distractions all the way but your ability to overpower them and be focus makes you a great person who can  do anything when he or she wants to.

Be Discipline:  They are rules and regulations in every organized place with responsible and organized people. In  sport, when you have been told to do one thing or the other, (of course you will have a coach and a trainer) you must do it, you have to be disciplined. As far as I know they are strict exercises and strict eating schedule and many more things you have to follow. Follow them strictly and don’t slack.

Have Self-Confidence:  In this sport lack of confidence is very dangerous, first it         slows you down, secondly it boost up your opponent. So you have to be confident in yourself and believe that you can do it (winning). Never display lack of confidence to your opponents because they will use it against you, STAY CONFIDENT!!

Be Competitive:  Sorry to say this, am also a Great fan of the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment). And my number one favorite Superstar is John Cena, one thing I like about this man is that losing a fight is not in his blood or mentality at all, he is very COMPETITIVE. Every single match he is in, he goes for the glory. Another man I love after John Cena is The Psycho Dean Ambrose (formerly of The Shield), they call him “The Psycho” because he always want to beat every of his competitors no matter how large, huge, powerful and mighty they are, Ambrose goes for it and gets his victory. In summary, you should have that same kind of spirit which is Competitiveness.

Determination:  Bringing back my WWE Favorite superstars, John Cena and The Psycho Dean Ambrose another thing I like these two men is DETERMINATION. “A Never Say Die Attitude” And this makes them to always defeat their opponents (am not saying that they don’t lose, but 85 % out of 100% win). You have to be determined. You can't give up, no matter how hard it seems (Have that “Never Say Die" Attitude). When you lose a match or miss a goal, you have to get right back up and try again. I like the fact that when the top players from the top football Nations were eliminated from the just concluded World Cup in Brazil, they went back to their different Club sides and played as if nothing happen at all, THAT”S DETERMINATION! Go for it!

Be Aggressive:  That is when being yourself comes to play, you have to make moves on your own, not just responding to what other athletes do. If you’re not aggressive in this life, you will be run over.

Be Emotionally Matured:  You have to be in control of your emotions. You can't let yourself get too nervous, to angry, too depressed, etc. Don’t carry your problems into your sport or your game because it will affect you. Drop every bad emotion at home and play your game.

Be a Good Time Manager:  You have to be able to manage your time well. You practice for hours and hours each day, on top of school, work, and spending time with friends and family.

Adaptability: You have to be able to adapt to different situations and new information quickly. They are some people that can’t adapt to changes, and they are some that bluntly refuse to adapt, they are the type of people that fail a lot. Your ability to adapt quickly keeps  you ahead of your competitors or opponents.

Be Able to Tolerate pain:  watching these  WWE Superstars wrestling and the boxers boxing sometimes it scares me a lot because many of them do take dangerous risk by pushing their body to its limit. But when I see the way they are succeeding, I say it is worth it. So you have to be able to put up with a lot of pain, from pushing your body to its limits. Do the same but be wise and smart!
